- This visit program, the first of its kind in Huelva, has been in place since 1999, thanks to the Company's commitment and transparency regarding its environment
- The visitors on site saw the ins and outs of the processes at Cepsa's two industrial centers in Huelva, and its commitment to security, the environment and technical excellence
Over 700 people have taken part in Cepsa Open Days in Huelva. For five years, the Company has been opening the doors of its facilities to visitors, who are able to see the activity that is carried out in the area and in the different countries in which Cepsa operates, as well as the many unknown applications for oil and its derivatives in our daily lives.
Those in attendance on site, mainly from Huelva, Palos de la Fronter and Moguer, although other municipalities around Huelva and from the province of Seville, were able to learn the ins and outs of Cepsa's processes at its two industrial centers in Huelva province: La Rábida Refinery and Palos Chemical Plant. Similarly, they witnessed the high safety, environmental protection, energy efficiency, innovation and quality standards that govern all of Cepsa's activities.
In addition to touring the production areas, they went on a guided visit with environmental monitors of the Laguna Primera de Palos lagoon, an example of biodiversity and conservation promoted and developed by Cepsa, which is part of the Network of Protected Spaces of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia through the Natural Park.
As these open days have an element of coexistence and family life, the Company scheduled special activities for the youngest visitors. Looked after by qualified monitors, the children took part in fun games and activities while the adults visited the site. Cepsa's safety technicians were on hand to teach them about safety in an entertaining way, this being one of the Company's key values.
This initiative, which has been ongoing since 1999 and in which over 9,300 people have taken part so far, is a testament to Cepsa's sense of commitment to and transparency regarding the environment. Furthermore, the company's activity improvement plan takes into account the opinion of citizens, collected via satisfaction surveys that are filled out at the end of each open day.
The Open Days are in addition to the various institutional, educational, associational and technical visits the Company carries out annually in order to show itself to the outside world and promote closer ties with the community. In 2016 alone, over 5,000 people visited Cepsa's facilities in Huelva.
Cepsa is an energy group wholly owned by the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC). It employs more than 10,000 professionals and operates at every stage of the hydrocarbon value chain. It is engaged in petroleum and natural gas exploration and production activities, refining, the transportation and sale of oil and natural gas derivatives, biofuels, co-generation and the sale of electricity.
The Company has developed a world-class petrochemical division that is tightly integrated into its oil refining segment, where feedstock is manufactured and sold for the production of high-added-value components, chiefly used in making next-generation plastics and biodegradable detergents. It has a significant presence in Spain and, thanks to the progressive internationalization of its activities, it is now also active on several continents, selling its products throughout the world.
Cepsa has two production centers in Palos de la Frontera: the La Rábida Refinery and the Palos Chemical Plant, which create over 1,000 direct jobs. These centers make the Company one of the province's largest companies in terms of industrial, social and economic activity.
